(January 25, 2018)  As tax season is once again upon us, the Kentucky Department of Revenue (DOR) is finalizing its processes and procedures, striving to make this the most efficient and safe filing season possible.

The IRS and Kentucky will begin accepting both electronic and paper tax returns January 28, 2019. The state will begin processing individual income tax refunds on Monday, February 11, 2019.

DOR asks Kentucky taxpayers to file as early as possible. Once individuals file their Kentucky tax returns, they can get state refund status information at this direct link https://refund.ky.gov/

Fraud prevention is critical for all taxpayers. During the 2018 tax season, Kentucky's anti-fraud measures helped save nearly $28 million from being stolen by potentially fraudulent filers. In the 2019 tax season, DOR will continue to emphasize its multiple protection measures to ensure important tax information remains confidential and safe.

Daniel P. Bork, DOR Commissioner, reminds all taxpayers to file early and electronically. "We urge all taxpayers to e-file their returns. It is the safest, most efficient way to file and speeds up the refund process by four to eight weeks."
